This represents one of Burton’s worst directing efforts since his remake of Planet of the Apes (2001). Admittedly there are some positives and I shall highlight one of them – the visuals. They are excellent, and in 3-D format, viewers will be in for a treat. Burton’s fantastical imageries come across as playful and gloomy. If there is something I admire about Burton, it is his consistent artistic vision no matter what the subject matter is. Burton’s film does not feature “Pandoraesque cinematography” and as a result its threadbare plot is obvious. This is best explained by the inclusion of the final (and formulaic) battle sequence. The thrill-less battle has a foregone conclusion and the build-up is disappointing. Alice will probably gratify its intended target audience while most will just enjoy immersing themselves in Burton’s visuals. But there are some who will feel that they have seen (and experience) it all before. Just ask Dorothy Gale. Seriously, where is the magic?

We brought our 3yo (almost!) girl to watch this. It's her 1st movie as a person, I meant she sorta watched a fun Stephen Chow's movie when I was pregnant w/her. That's how long I didn't catch a show in cinemas. So, I love Tim Burton (loads) & she loves Disney! Of course, it's a gd excuse to watch this thou e man in e family kinda preferred more war movies, but really, who cares when e women rules :) I was asking ard frems if a 3yo wld be scared of e Chesire cat, Mad Hatter & e constant burst of e Red Queen. But I was just worrying too much. She loved it! She was so excited abt the inqusitive Alice, e fat boys, e rabbit coat, e White Queen, e dragon, the Mat Hatter & e Red Queen. She was squealing away when she heard the Red Queen yelling "Where are my fat boys!" She tot e 2 fat boys were funny. She's abit scared of the Mad Hatter, which I guessed due to e make-up. As for me, I tot Tim wld do something darker & it's not childhood Alice story thou but, I love this piece of work anyway!
